Herbal tales…
Posted by anke under General
Why am I drinking this fertility tea?
My darling partner informs me that in order to fall pregnant someone just has to give me a parsley plant. Apparently there is this saying that giving females parsley causes them to fall pregnant. To prevent this from happening, said female should always pay the person presenting this herb to her.
Sheesh. If I had known it was that easy I would have organised some parsley giving some time ago.
Anyone else know of some interesting herbal old wives tales?
Stay Herbal!

I’ve heard this one… and wondered if I should give such gifts to people trying for babies…
Maybe I should!

I just wanted to tell you - I’ve also heard that parsley can bring ON a period and is an “abortifacent.” (I think this means it can cause abortions). I don’t mean to sound negative but I am trying for a baby too and would hate for you to do something that would cause you to miscarry - I could be totally wrong but wanted to just suggest, please research it more on the net. I hope I’m wrong!

Hi Laura,
You can eat parsley as you always have. Sprinkling it on your spaghetti sauce or salad will not cause you to suffer a spontaneous abortion. The reason there is a caution is that parsley is an emmenagogue - that is, it has an effect on the menstrual cycle and may bring on a period.
Not strictly an abortifacent but something you obviously do not wish to cause while pregnant.
In pregnancy it is recommended that women not consume therapeutic (i.e. large) doses of parsley.
Thank you for bringing it up, there are many women who might be concerned about what they can and can’t eat.
Good luck with the baby making
